Devolution's roots run deep. So deep that we need to travel back to 1996 in Virginia Beach, Va., where the seed was first planted. What started from an ad at a local music store, has led to over 25 years of writing, recording, and performing music together.
Nate Beberdick (Guitars) & Eric Tysor (Drums) are the founders and driving force of Devolution. In 1996, 15 year old Nate posted a "Drummer Wanted" ad at local music stores all around the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Eric, who was 21 at the time, responded and the two began jamming. It only took that first jam session playing Metallica, Pantera, and Sepultura covers, to realize they had a rare and unique musical chemistry.
A band was quickly formed with the addition of vocalist Chris Harrell (Acaro, Burn in Silence), and later, bassist Al Gibson (UnK-AL, Sic Seed, Hairline Fracture). The band was named Deviation.
Deviation was active for 3 years and dominated the local heavy music scene. Countless shows were played in the area and beyond. Radio play and interviews on major rock stations, newspaper articles, and opportunities to play with national touring acts such as Crisis and Burn The Priest (Lamb of God), all contributed to the bands success.
The band parted ways in 1999, however, Nate and Eric continued writing and recording music. Not only had they grown together as musicians, but also friends. This project was named... Devolution.
Devolution hasn't quit creating since.
As you can imagine, many life changing events occur over a quarter century. Careers were established, families were started, and relocations were made. Eric and Nate were still able to write and record demos remotely.
It wasn't until 2016, with the birth of Nate's twin girls, that the gears of Devolution came to a temporary halt. The added full time responsibility didn't allow much time for creative release. It did however, allow time for reflection on a lifetime of musical work, yet to be heard by the world.
After 4.5 years of essentially creative blue balls, Devolution was back and ready to explode.
In 2021, with the challenges of young families behind them, Eric and Nate were ready to take Devolution to the next level and give the time, attention, and effort it deserved. It was time to finally share their music with the world.
Recording of Devolution's debut EP began in May 2021 with Producer Mike Trubetskov at EOL Studios and features Bassist Christian Olde Wolbers (Fear Factory, Vio-lence, Powerflo) and Vocalist Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Imonolith). Mastering by the legendary Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound.
The album single, a cover of Depeche Mode's Enjoy The Silence, was released on 2/2/22 and has an accompanying video directed by Scott Hansen (Sevendust, Meshuggah, Ill Nino).
EP release date coming soon!
